He served as director general of the youth welfare agency between 1387 and 1391H. he was appointed governor of Assir province of south-western Saudi Arabia since the month of safar 1391 H. on may 16,2007 prince Khalid al-faisal has been appointed governor of the makkah region. Secretary general of the king Faisal charity foundation, and chairman of the king Faisal international prize committee, he founded the painting & patronage initiative in1999. He held the first literary and cultural forum in Riyadh, and is the author of many poetical works. He established the Abha prize, held various exhibitions of his own paintings, and was granted a number of decorations and awards.

Prince Khalid is also the president of the Arab Thought Foundation.
